LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOP

DEVELOPING A PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT

WITH GUEST MENTOR RORY DOYLE

ABOUT THIS WORKSHOP

Every great photographer recommends doing a mid to long-term photography project. It’s a way to learn, challenge yourself and become a better photographer in the process.

The question is, how do you decide on a project or identify an interesting story? And once you have it, how do you overcome the many obstacles and challenges along the way? Not to mention what can you do with the project once it’s finished?

For this workshop we have invited Rory Doyle to share his experiences and expert advice on working on short and long-term projects.

Rory Doyle’s work is nothing short of inspirational; it’s stirs motivation and wonder in me as a photographer that makes me want to get out there and attempt to make equally as beautiful photographs. Whenever I see the results of long-term photo projects like his Mississippi Delta Black Cowboys, I’m always in awe in the level of access and intimacy, but left wondering how I could possibly do something similar. If you’ve ever felt the same, then I recommend attending this workshop. Rory walks students through the thought, approach, and editing processes in creating a strong photographic essay such as his as well as ways to get the work seen.

Rory is calm and easy. The workshop experience with him was nothing short of inspiring. Lit up a fire in me that I hope to fan to an inferno. I love that his process is quite relatable. I totally recommend you taking on his next workshop!

I was fascinated and so impressed by Rory’s presentation; the quality and depth of information, both about the technical and practical aspects of the project, but also about the important environmental and social details. The beautiful, evocative images were every bit as captivating as the Black Cowboys and Nepal and food insecurity/pandemic projects I’ve seen bits of. I think it was the combination of it all that stopped me from interrupting vocally with more questions, despite Christelle’s warm encouragement to do so. It was like sitting down to a table and enjoying a quite the most delicious, rewarding meal – no inclination to talk! I am so impressed by the generosity of you pro’s; with your warm personal welcome, answering all the questions, no matter how basic, offering tons of useful information on all things photographic. This workshop, plus the previous ones I’ve enjoyed, has prompted me to get the annual membership to The RAW Society, and, again, to recommend it to anyone I can think of. Thank you, Rory, Christelle and Jorge, (even though I went to bed so inspired and buzzing, I couldn’t sleep.) Still the best Euro value on the internet.
